Church of England Meetings
Mr Towgood and Mr Hermon were most unfortunate in ' respect of the weather. It rainii hard all Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. The weather was at its worst during the times appointed for services and meetings, both at Pemberton and Birmingham. A meeting was held at Pemberton on Saturday night, when Mr Towgood and Mr Herman explained the resolutions passed in the Synod re the OngoApiti districts, which were to the effect that the new district should comprise the four centres — Hunterville, Ohingaiti, Birmingham; 'n«tt fc^Poiiib»i | WJU l v n »ud'''llj«!h» the clergyman should equally divide his services, as. foa^as possible, betweejr tbeuy supposing a certain sum was raises: in the four centres for his stipend, to be aiigmented by ft^pgoiaJ^niH iifwiMJafti^Qiiiirti ii fund raised in WelHrig|»n , for/. *uch purposes. Mr Towgood informed the meeting that Hunterville and Ohingaiti bad promised £100 per annum. A committee was readily formed to canvass the Pemberton district, which, at J&r \lleirman£b suggestion, determined to rlporFtO Him! the result of their canvass in six weeks' time. The following are the members of the committee : — Messrs Bennett, Bryce, Gould, Chas. Peinberton, and :Btem); / -..- Next morning Divine service was held in the school when, in spite of the<Wjß«-'. ther, some forty persons were, present. In the evening Divine . service was held at Birmingham, when the weather was even worse, nevertheless Quite/ b thirty persons were present. / i"I The meeting on Monday evening, as a meeting, was a failure. An election vof the school committee was going on at the time which, in addition to the bad w»a-o^ ther, was unfortunate.
