A Peeress sent to Prison
(PEIi PRESS ASSOCIATION.) London, April 19. Tbo Dowaffer Duohoss of Sutherland, who was charged with seizing and dc> stroymtj papers in charge of the administrator in tho estate of her late husband, explained that the only document she had destroyed was a letter of the late Duke to her before their marriage, and ; she apologised to the Court. The Judge, however, refused to accept an apology, i and condemned her to pay a fine of £250, ' and to be imprisoned for six weeks for : contempt of Court. The Duchess was j allowed to go home upon undertaking to i surrender herself at Hollonay Gaol, where, as a first-class misdemeunant she will be allowed to furnish her own cell. Her solicitors hope to obtain a partial ' remission of her sentence. It is ' rumoured that a writ of habeas corpus * will bo moved for on the ground that a \ peoress cannot be arrested ia eiyil cases,
