Grand Lodge Meeting 01 Good Templars
We are indebted to Mr Downey, the Feilding Dcicgnte to the Grand Lodgmeeting at Auckland, for the following interesting particulars respecting the business transacted : — The session was held in the Weslej Hall, and was attended by eighty sis deiegmes, from (lie subordinate Indies, who oauie from all parts of the colony. Proceedings commenced nt 9 30 a vi on Saturday, the Ist inst., and the congress sat until the 7th inst. The morning session lasted from 9.30 until 12.45., the afternoon from 2. 1n until 5.30, aud the evening session from 7.3o until 10 o'clock. The sitting were presided over by Gruud Worthy Chief Templar, liro Adams, of Dunedin, whose ability as a chairman well qualified him to hold so high a position. Preyious to the grand lodge receiving the W.C. Templar's report it was necessary to extend the Urand Lodge degree to 28 representatives of various lodges so us to entitle them to act in grand lodge. The chairman referred to this duty as one which afforded him much rojoiciug, inasmuch as he could see that there were many willing to stand out nobly for tho cause which had for its object the suppression of the liquor traffic, and the waging of war against 6uch au inveterate foe. The (x.W.C. Tomplar's report was then read clause by clause, and at the conclusion received enthusiastic applause from the members presentThe report was very voluminous, covered H pages, aud contained much valuableinforination. The report of Grand Secretary, Grand Superintendent of Juvenile Loaves, Grand Lodge Lecturer, and the finance committee were read and adopted. On the 6th inst, a testimonial consisting of a handsomely illuminated address, together with a gold medallion, was pie seuted to the Grand Lodge Lecturer as a token of his unceasing efforts in the cause of social reform. During the sitting of grand lodge, telegrams were received from the various associated lodges conveying fraternal greetings, including the Feilding and Palmerston North bodies. On Easter Monday the members were invited by their local brethren to attend a picnic which was held ap St llellier's Bay, and was greatly enjoyed by the southern visitors. Brb E. Tenuyson Smith whose fame as a temperance advocate is world wide, has daring the year been inslrumtntal in opening eleven now lodges, among the number being the "Hope of Foildmjr," which -started with a roll of fifty-nine members. Deputations from the N Z. Alliance and the Sons of Temperance were received aud mutual expressions of goodwill paessd between th no, tie former deputation being introduced by Brother Glover, P.G.C.T. The following officers woie elected for the ensuing year:-G.C.T. Bro U. N. Adams, (re-elected), Grand Councillor Bro Stead, G.V.T. Sister Grennell. G.S-J.T. Bro W, Walton, (re-elected,) G. Secretary Bro D. Cameron, (re-elected,) Grand Treasurer Bro Carr, Grand Chaplain Key Bro Hall, Grand Electoral Superintendaut Bro Thompson, Grand Marshall Bro Leßoy, G. Sentinel Bro Bead (Sandon), G. Guard Bro Perm. It was decided to hold the next sitting of grand lodge at Dunedm in April 1395.
