The Manawatu A. and P. Association
The seventh annual general meeting of the above association was held at Palnierston, on Saturday afternoon, when there was an attendance of over sixty gentlemen. Mr George Wheeler, VicePresident of the Association, occupied the chair. The Chairman read the annual report of the Committee and balance-sheet as follows : Receipts — Special prizes, £'161 5s ; entry fees (members, £81 12s 6d, nonmembers, £72 9s), £154 Is 6d ; members' subscriptions, £255 ; gate money, £443 10s 3d ; sale of privileges, £82 8s 6d ; sale of catalogues, £22 12s ; advertising in do., £10 5s ; luncheon, £4 4s ; rent and hire of 6how ground, £48; rent for permanent stands, £10 7s 6d ; ram fair, £13 4s 3d ; y. M. Baker's deposit (forfeited), £2 : balance, £184 3s Od (less outstanding cheques, £9), i 175 Bs 6d ; total, £1,391 Is 6d. Expenditure— Overdraft, March 81st, 1892, £31 3s 2d ; Secretary's salary, £25 ; office rent, £5, cheque-book, £1 10s, £0 10s; Judge's expenses, £69 6s; cash prizes, L 414 Gs ; refreshments, Ll2 109 ; music, LB, L2O 10s ; printing, L7O Is 6d ; advertising, L3B 10s 9d, LIOB 12s 3d; stamps, telegrams, and petty cash, L 2 5; rates, Ll2 Bs, gatemen, L 22 os, L 34 18s; rosettes, L 2 6s 6d, cartage, LI 10s, L 3 12s 6d ; bank interest, L 4 11s 4d, slaughtering sheep, LI ss, L 5 10s 4d ; land account Manawatu Building Society, L 44 16s 8d ; .Secretary's commission, L 57 10s ; improvements to show ground, L 521 3s 7d ; flags, Ll4 18s, sundries, L 2, Ll6 18 ; rent of paddock, L 6 : total, £1,391 Is 6d. The statement of assets ftnd lmbihtieti showed the net assets to be L 1.3.65 14s 3d. Colonel Gorton moved, That the report be adopted, and that it be an instruction to the incoming committee to adopt the balance-sheet on its being certified to as correct by an auditor or auditors to be appointed at this meeting. The motion was seconded by Mr Booth and carried. Mr Buchanan proposed and Mr Saxon seconded, That Mr George Wheeler be elected President. — Carried. Messrs Snelson and Wallace were elected Vice-Presidents. The election of the General Committee was proceeded with. Thirty-eight names were proposed, and, on a ballot being taken, the following twenty-four were declared elected : — Messrs It. S. Smith, Captain Brown, J. 11. Pratt, Arthur llussell Snow, J. T. Dalrymple, D. D, McKenzie, Donald Fraser, 11. Stevens, T. Knight, T. Mcl£&nzie, J. Saxon, A. Skerman, J. O. Batchelor, Gillies, D. Buick, 11. S. Abraham, 11, Bryant, Carr, Buchanan, C. Pascal, L. Holden, H. Booth, and J. G. Wilson, M.H.IJ. A lengthy discussion followed concerning disqualification of Mr S. M. Baker, owner of Somnus. Mr Baker asked for the removal of the disqualification, which was refused by 81 votes against 18. Proposed by the Chairman and carried, That this meeting instruct the Committee to assist, and if necessary, subsidise the efforts about to be renewed to free this district from the necessity of branding sheep at any other time than that of shearing. Resolved, That the date on which subscriptions are due be altered from Ist July to Ist April. With a vote of thanks to the chair the meeting adjourned.
