Feilding Borough Council

+ The usual monthly meeting of the above was held on Thursday evening last. Present — Messrs Goodbehere (Mayor), Gould, Fowles, Carthew, Haybittle, Lethbridge, Sandilands, Thompson and Chamberlain. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was received : — From Dr Sorley reporting a case- -of diphtheria. From the agent of the Colonists Land Corporation, explaining his ; error in regard to a breach of the Borough byelaws. From Levin and Co. re the recreation ground, suggesting that too much power was proposed to be given to the trustees in the matter of closing the ground for 100 days, but stating that the draft deed should be submitted to the Corporation's solicitor. . . " - ■ From the same, re the Borough's ap. plication for a site for the erection- of municipal offices, and a library, and stating that the application would be considered. ;: From the Lands and Survey Department, in reference to iron standards' at street corners, and asking if the Borough would provide the necessary labour and concrete blocks. From the Secretary Atkinson Memorial fund, requesting a return of subscription lists. From the Treasury, re the loan application, stating that the special brier adopting tbe " Local Bodies Loans Acl," and the resolution striking a rate to provide interest on the loan were made simultaneously, and so neither could take effect. From the Charitable Aid Board, requesting information as to the amount required for charitable aid during the current financial year. From the Registrar-Genera), requesting statistics for the year ending 81st of March, 1893. Resolved, That the Finance and Public Works Committees reports be adopted. Resolved, That tenders be called for forming twelve chains and metalling four chains of Sherwili street, and that the tenders be received at a special meeting of tbe Council to be held this day fortnight. Resolved, That tenders be called for filling the ditch in Manchester street, And making a drain in West street, andithat tbe same be in by this day fortnight.' Resolved, That the application of Mr Wm. Smith, and Mrs Rebecca Fowles, for alterations of names on the burgess roll, be acceded to. Resolved, That the Atkinson Memorial fund list be returned and the subscriptions forwarded to tbe Secretary, Mr A. G. Brett. Resolved, That the Council agree to provide the labour and conorete blocks required in fixing the iron standard^ at street corners for survey purposes* in accordance with the Survey- General's letter. Resolved, That a man be put on to clear the side of Kimbolton road as requested by Dr Johnston, and the Public Works Committee inspect the Makino road with a view of clearing it of flax etc, and making a side track, the committee to report this day fortnight. Resolved, That notice be given of the Council's intention on the 4th day of May next, to make a general rate of Is in the £, and a library rate of one penny in the £, on tbe property within the Borough for the year ending 31st of March, 1894, such rates to be payable in one sum on the 18th day of May next. Resolved, That the Mayor and Or. Haybittle be authorized to arrange with the Bank of Australasia as to the overdraft for the year ending 81th March, 1894, and that a cheque be sent to the Bank for the amount of overdraft on the 31st March last. Resolved, _ That the Cemetery Committee be instructed to have the two gates leading to the cemetery repaired and painted. Resolved, That the Town Clerk write to tbe Railway Commissioners asking them to have tbe flax removed between the railway line and the Makino road. Resolved, That the draft of the clauses proposed to be embodied in tbe deed of trust of the recreation reserve be sent to the Borough solicitor, and that he be authorized to have the deed drawn by Mr Gully and submit it to the Council and Sports Committee for approval. Resolved, That tenders be called for removing the pound from its present site to that known as the pound paddock, tenders to be in by the next meeting of the Council. Resolved, That Mr J. H. Blackmore be appointed as poundkeeper and ranger for the ensuing twelye months on the same terms as before. Resolved, That the sum of £115 standing to the credit of the " Public Works interest account " be handed to the Sinking Fund Commissioners for inyestment, The following tenders for work were aocepted : — That of John Pawson for lighting the Borough lamps at 29s per month ; Thomas Smith, for the footpath in Kimbolton road, for £\1 ss; Joseph Belfit for metal at Is lid per yard ; Brain well Bros, for rations at 2s lOd per ration ; and that of G; C. Hill at L 25 for taking the street levels. The usual monthly accounts were parsed for payment, and the Council adjourned.
