The boy stood on the back-yard fence, Wheuce all but he had fled ; The flame that lit his fath-r's barn, Shone just above the shed. One bunch of crackers in his hand, Three others in his hat; With piteous aefcuts loud he cried, "I never thought of that." One bunch of crackers to the tail Of one small dog he tied, The dog iv angui-h sought the barn And 'mid Us ruins died. The sparks flew wide, and red, and hot, They lit upon that brat ; They fired tlie crackers in his hand, They lit those in his hat.
