i It is estimated that the cotton strike > caused a loss of L 2.000.000 sterling, including LI ,000,000 in wages. A Judge in New Orleans has decided that the action of the Labour organisations in ordering a general strike is unlawful, and merchants and others were entitled to obtain an injunction in the matter. The Minister for Public Works will shortly ask the Sydney Parliament to vote a sum of L 50.000 to repair tlio damage caused by the floods.
