Meeting at Colyton

The Pohangina Small Farm Association No. 2 (Wangunui Harbor Board Block) met t\t the above named hall on Saturday, March 25th. The chairman read correspondence since January 28th, and the minutes were passed. The reply has not yet been received from the Commissioner of Grown Lands in answer to the Association's request to havo clause 3 of the Enabling Bill wore accnrably defined. The principal object of calling the meetins; was to have the deed of covenant signed. Only twenty-two members however, attended. The chairman stated that it was most important that the deed should be executed at once, as until then, for one thing ; the member's names could not be entered on the roll, consequently no vote Knowing that need might arise at any moment for voting for loan proposals, it was a matter of great regret that members were not more alive to their interests. The remaining twenty-two signatures must be obtained as soon as possible therefore Mr Lankshear proposed, That any expence incurred by the chairman in obtaining signatures to the covenant, is to be paid by the person or persons on whose behalf it is incurred. Seconded by Mr Aitken, and carried. Several letters were read from members who wished to have their back peg 9 put in and also from Messrs Flyger and Wylde, surveyors, the matter will receive immediate attention. The Association is to pay its half-yearly instalments in a lump sum to the Receiver of Land Revenue, Wellington. Individual payments not recognised. Therefore as the Association is to be held responsible for all payments during the 10 years of payment, the following resolution was passed to he«ready on case of emergency. Proposed by slr Vile, That in the event of any member of the Association failing to pay to the chairman on the date fixed, the instalment due on his section ; the section will be forfeited, and put up for sale there and then by the chairman to the highest bidder, any surplus after paying instalment to be paid to the defaulting member. Seconded by Mr Cowan, and carried. Mr Lanksbear proposed that, before any important business — such as forfeiture of a section — could be undertaken, at least one half the members be present. Seconded by Mr Stan ton, and carried. Mr Aitken proposed, That the date of the next meeting for payment of instalment be Saturday December 16th. Seconded by Mr L. Jefteries, and carried. The next instalment is due on January 1, 1894. Mr Vile proposed, That a meeting be called fourteen days before the due date, so that the money should be in hand. Seconded by Mr Cowan, and carried. After some discussion on a portion of the correspondence with the Wangaiwi Harbor Board, Mr Aitken moved that the chairman be em powered to interview the Board. Seconded by Mr Port, and carried. Proposed by Mr Port, That the calls be made on sections, not on individuals. Seconded by Mr Cowan, and carried. The special rate that would be required to be struck if the Association borrowed for road making would be about yd in the jfc, or 4Ad per" acre. A meeting of ratepayers of i No. 1 ward is to be held at Duubar's woolshed Zigzag road on Thursday next, to discuss loan proposals for roading the whole of the ward, which would cost from LbOOO to HO.OOO. The chairman thought it best if the Association joined with the rest of the ward. The rates from this ward are all required for maintenance. During the year L2OO has been spent clearing away slips, etc., therefore it is not at all likely that any will be available for new formation.
