Opening of the Aorangi Bridge

The ceremony to-morrow of opening the new bridgeover the Oroua river, at Aorangi, will be an imposing one. A very large number of invitations have been issued; and the tickets for the luncheon afterwards havo been taken up in a most liberal spirit by the public of Feilding, who duly appreciate the importance of the event, Mr John Gould has undertaken the catering, and that is a good and sufficient guarantee there will be an ample supply of all the delicacies of the season available. Captain Edwin has wired that we may expect n gentle northerly wind ; and that will mean, we have no doubt, a really fine day. The Feilding Band, under the leadership of Mr 11. F. Haybittle, will play a selection of pieces, which will contribute to the general enjoyment. Mr F. Y. Lethbridge, the popular Chairman of the Manchester Road Board, will open the proceedings, and the Minister for Public Works, the Hon It. J. Seddon, and the Member for the District, Mr 11. C. Bruce, will assist with appropriate addresses should these gentlemen avail themselves of the invitations sent them. Tho members of tho sevoral local bodies, which of o >m>o include tho Mayor and Borough Councillors of Feilding, iv the whole district havo boon invited, aud will of course bo present to take part m tbe proceedings.
