(PEE TBESS ASSOCIATION). Blenheim, March 17. The greater part of to-day was observed as a holiday, when the St. Patrick's Sports took place. The St. Patrick's Handicap (total value £65) was won by R. Hole, of Waipairo, I. Watts, of Feilding, being second. Hole also won Putting the Stone and Hop, Step, and Jump events. Champion Race — Rogers. Hurdles — A. W. Watts (Feilding), 1 ; Hall, 2. Consolation — Thompson (Masterton), 1. High Jump — Morrison, sft lOin, 1 ; Good (New Plymouth), 2 ; Halo, 3. Palmkbston, This Day. A four roomed cottage, owned by E. H. Palmer, and occupied by E. H. Littlejohn, was burned this morning at 2.20. The origin of the fire is unknown. Insurances — building, J-150 ; furniture, i) 100 ; both in (he National. Nothing was saved. Wellington, This Day. The Monowai, with English mails to 18th February, left 'Frisco for Auckland on 3rd instant, contract date. The Alameda with colonial mails to 25th February, arrived at 'Frisco from Auckland on 16th instant, contract date. New Plymouth, March 17. At the Laud Board mquiry to-day, Mr Sarouol, on behalf of tho defendants, < raised a point of jurisdiction, contending that the Laud Board had no jurisdiction to try the cases now before it. On re sutmnß at 2.30 p.m , Mr Roy, who appears for the Laud Department, stated that after a resolution which had beou passed by the Lund Boad he would with draw all the casjos. It appoars that the Land Board aftor consulting with Mr Roy and Mr Kerr decided that they had no jurisdiction in the cases brought beforo it uudor "Tho Land Act, 1887,"
