Pohangina Road Board
The following business was transacted after we went to press last Saturday : — Further correspondence was received and dealt with in resolutions. From W. Spurway, Apiti, agreeing to accept the Board's offer, provided it is for a term of 21 years ; from Palmers ton Hospital Board, re finding board for charitable aid patients ; from Land and Survey Office, to the effect that the selector's interest in section 39, block 10, has been cancelled, and that the section will shortly be offered for sale; from Sarah McDonald, of Asburst, requesting a return of 14s 2d exoess of rates paid to the Board ; from Job Palmer, demanding payment of 28s ; from the receiver of Land Revenue, forwarding £854 8s 8d accrued thirds due to the Board. In reply to the Treasurer re the £6000 loan, the Secretary wrote as follows : " The Board would draw your special attention to clause 40 of ' The Local Bodies Loan Act, 1886,' which states that every notice (of result of poll) so published in the Gazette shall be conclusive evidence that the raising of the loan has been authorized, and that all proceedings have been lawfully complied with." This being so, the Board fails to see how the alleged informality affects the loan in any way, the proposals having been duly carried and Gazetted. If the loan is still refused further steps will be taken by the board to compel the Government to keep faith with it. Resolved, That the meeting of ratepayers in No. 3 Ward, te> consider proposals for raising of a loan of £5492 for constructing roads in the said Ward, be held on Wednesday, the 29th of March, and that the poll for the loan be taken on Friday, the 7th of April. Resolved, That the Secretary take the necessary steps by advertisement for raising a loan for roads in the Oroua Coal Creek Block and the Oroua Coal Creek Block North. Resolved, That the Engineer get the three necessary culverts put in on the main road, Feilding Special Settlement. The Chairman gave notice of motion to the effect, That whereas it was thought necessary by the Manchester Road Board to have a court ot enquiry held, and thereby mulct the Kiwitea Board into paying a share of their expenses towards the Qnepuhi fridge. advisable to have a court of enquiry held as to what amount of revenue the Manchester Board receives from the Manawatu Gorge. .Bridge (a large portion of which revenue is derived from the ratepayers in this Board's district), in order " that the Pohangina Board may receiye a portion of the said revenues. Resolved, That James McMillan's ten* der for widening, trimming, and metalling the Oroua Valley road, from the Feilding Special Settlement to the Oroua river for the sura of £353 12s, be accepted.
