Waituna Notes

[FfiOM OUB OWN COBBKBPONDENT.] I A meeting of settlers was held on Saturday evening at the Beacousfield school to meet a deputation from the Rangitikei Liberal Association, and was fairly attended. Mr Cunningham was voted to tho chair and called on Mr John Stevens to address the meeting. Mr Stevens explained at some length the several planks in the Association's platform. He was followed by Mrr Ellis, who spoke strongly on the benefit of Liberal legislation to the colony. At the close of this address all ■ who wished to join the Association were invited to give in their names, which several did, and a branch of the Association was then formed and named the Beaconsfield and Waituna West branch of tho Rangitikei Liberal Association. Mr Cunningham and Mr Phyn were then unanimously elected as president and secretary of the branch. I fear it is of no use to expect any sport with rod And line in the Kiwitea stream, as the water seems too warm for the young fry. I noticed quite a number of poung fish lying dead at one of the crossings after the great heat in the latter part of January. Most of the fulled bush about hero has been burned, and those who waited long enough hud very fair burns. I hoar that the settlors in tho West Waitapn are moving to gee a school established. They claim to have thirty children of school ase. Grass is wonderful for the season and stock are in prime condition.
