Pohangina Notes
[FttOM OUB OWN COBRESPOXDENT.] Although such an unfavorable season for bush burning some good burns have been obtained. The United Farmers' Alliance are supplying our farmers with grass seed. Ashurst was beaten by Palmerston at their cricket match played last Saturday. Ashurst made twelve in the first innings and seventeen in the second. Palmerston making thirty-five in one innings. The visitors had two good bowlers, one especially good, who took two wickets in two bails, and the timber of the next man shivered as the third ball passed. Sheep dipping is in full swing. The successful tenderers for roads in Mr Dickens ward have commenced work. The Awahon hous have waited ft long time for their roads and are rewarded at last. In answer to enquiries the secretary of the farm associations bids me say that the lithograph plans of the Salisbury and Delaware blocks are not yet issued. The surveyors are still at work ronding the Salisbury block. Another party will shortly be sent up to put in the section pegs. About a mile of road to connect tho Pohangtna township with Feilding will shortly be made. 'The road to Ashurst is open all the way. Being connected with these two centres will no doubt help the Bale of these sections. In consequence of our healthy neighborhood, Dr Lockinge, of Ashurst, d c not find so much to do as be anticipated. A proposal was made to the settlers to guarantee a certain sum yearly to him. Any medical advice to a guarantor to be set against the amount of his guarantee at a fixed scale of charges. Those who guarantee and do not require medical advice will, no doubt, be only too «lad to pay the amount in any case. The proposal is favorably received.
