Wi; hope that the calamity at Hastings, where the most valuable part of the town was destroyed bv lire, will be a guide to the committee appointed to draw up amended bye-laws for the borough of Feilding, in framing the clause affecting the erection of new buildings in the borough. It is quite evident that in the near future any precaution taken in that direction now, will be found of seryice. It is with considerable pleasure that we learn by a telegram received today, that the Victorian banks have reduced to four per tent, the rate of interest paid by them on fixed deposits at twelve months. This will exercise a most beneficial influence over commercial enterprise in this colony, and still further promote her internal prosperity by cheapening money, and thereby encouraging expenditure in improvements on lands recently opened up.
