Kiwitea Road Board

The following business was transacted after we went to press on Saturday last. Resolved That the Secretary apply to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, for a certificate allowing for the thirds in the Sandon block and Ongo Ward, to be spent in paying interest on their respective loans. Resolved, That tenders be called to be in by nest meeting of the Board, for works situated in the Apiti Ward, for which the thirds are now in hand. Kesolved, That Mr Crabb's orders be met as far as the balance in hand of Newman's contract goes, provided he indemnify the Board against any other claims. Resolved, That Mr Stent's slaughtering licence be renewed. Resolved, That Mr Sandiland's letter be referred to the Board's solicitor. Resolved, That Mr Stanbury be referred to the Engineer re totara timber on the fence line. Resolved, That the Engineer be instructed to put in hand the various works as per schedule, the thirds for which are received from the Commissioner of Crown Lands. Resolved, That having complied with the Act, a slaughtering licence be granted to Mr C. McKinnon, of Pemberton. Resolyed, That Mr Anderson be informed, that the thirds in question are to hand, and that the Board will call tenders for the work, tenders to dose bj next meeting of tho Board. Messrs Keenan, Robinson. & McDonnell waited upon the Board, with reference to the accrued thirds in the Apiti Survey District amounting to £276, with a reqae?t that the said thirds might be spent in the continuation of the bridge track on the Tapuae Ridge road. The Chairman said the thirds were now in hand, and would bo apportioned as the majority of the ratepayers desired, and the matter would recieve due attention. Resolved, That the following tenders be accepted : — Rangitikei road east, Buchanan Brop., £178 10s; Northern line No 1, B. Lvon, £1/55 10s; Northern line Nos- 2 and 3. J. H. Anderson, £220 each ; Waituna Valley, 2 miles, B. Pool, £425; Kiwitea- Tapuae road, 7 5£ chains. Younger and Laing, £64 3s 6d ; Northern line, trimming and metalling, Younger and Laing, £2 10d per cham ; conditionally that the contractors wait until the money is received from the Government. Resolyed, Tbat the Secretary be instructed to obtain tho fullest information from the Government, as to what steps it will be Docessary to take to form the Kiwitea Road Board into a County. Considerable discussion arose when this subject was brought up, some of the members of the Board being of opinion that there was very little probability of anything resulting from the proposal, which was however carried. The monthly accounts were passed for payment, and tho Board adjourned.
