The Manchester Rifles held a parade on Thursday night, when there was a very good muster. The men were exercised in company movements, firing and manual exercise by the officers and non-commissioned officers. The recruits were taken in hand by Sergt. Petherick. After the parade was dismissed a meeting of the shooting committee was held, when the following team was selected to represent the Manchester Rifles in the match against the Rangitikei Cavalry on Wednesday next :— Lieut. Bray, Sergts. Petherick and Say well, Corps. Aitken and Saywell, Vols. Parker, Scott, and Stevens. The coach will leave for Bulls at 10 o'clock sharp. The competition for marksmen who were returned as efficient Volunteers for 1892 for the gold and silver medals for the North Island, and for the silver medal for each district, will take place at Palmerstoa North on 18th inst., Martou on 2nd March, and NVaverley on 3rd March. The conditions are 200 yds standing, 300 yds kneeling, and 500 yds any military position ; 10 shots at each distance; colonial ammunition only to be used.
