Pohangina Notes
[from oue own cobbkspondent] Several persons have already taken advantage of the fine weather that we have had for burning the felled bush, and there was a tremendous lot of fires about here last Monday, when our pleasant valley was completely smothered in smoke. There were some good burns — and some were indifferent, for the rain caiue rather too soon and slackened the fires to a greafc extent. Fencing is now being talked about, and grass seed sowing has commenced. We have now here a butcher's shop, blacksmith, fruitshop, and general store, so Pohangina is shoving ahead. The Koad Board have had three men clearing out the swamp drains and the contractor for the road work expects to commence work in a few days time, so we will be lively for the next month or two. Stock are looking well this season owing to the abundance of good pasture. Large quantities of sawn timber are coming in for the many new buildings now in course of erection.
