Feilding State School
The Committee of the above School held a meeting yesterday evening. Present — Messrs Lethbridge (Chairman), Carthew, Shearer, Taylor, Worsfold, and Dr Sorley. The minutes of tho last meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was received as follows : — From Miss Dalrymple, Secretary W.C.T.U., asking what steps the Committee had takeu towards introducing into the School Dr liichardson's text books on temperance. The head master's report stated the attendance of the majority of the children has improved. There are, however, a number of neglected children who do not attend at all. Formal notices have been served in about GO instances, and it remains for the Committee to say whether j uuy further proceedings should be taken against the parents. This has been done with great success at the Kaiapoi, Hawera, and Mast or ton schools. The average attendance for the week ending January 27th is 221 ; week ending February Drd 205, and week ending February 10th 245. The report further recommends that prizes be given in three classes : Ist class, those who have missed no attendances ; 2nd class, those who havo missed not over 15 attendances ; 3rd class, those who have missed not ever HO attendances. The head master also requested, that the Board should be asked to sanction the expenditure of i'tjQ on the master's house, the Board to re-pay Mr Hill when in funds. Resolved, That Messrs Worsfold and Shearer be the visiting committee for the current mouth. Resolved, That the action of the Chairman re increased remuneration to the cleaner of the school premises, be confirmed. Kesolvod, That the sanction of tho Board be asked for repaying Mr Hill tho sum of £50 expended on his house. ltosolved, That the concert take place on the 28rd and the school picnic be held ou Friday the 24th instant, and that the committee meet again on the 22nd instant to make the necessary arrangements. llosolved, That the question of taking out summonses against parents whose children are constantly absent, be left in the hands of the Chairman to deal with at his discretion. The Secretary was desired to write to .Miss Dairymple, that the committee had boeij unublp to obtain Dr Richardson's tosa bouks in the cqjony. The committee passed the month's accounts for payment, and adjourned.
