The Feilding Star. TUESDAY, FEB. 14, 1893. The Pohangina Road Board
Tiik members of the Pohangina Road Board cannot be congrutuated on their economy or common sence. In fact at every meeting they are guilty of extravagances which show they are either ignorant altogether of the value of money, or am wilfully careless of the interests of their fellow ratepayers which they were elected to protect. The latest fancy is to have expensive ollices built in the Pohangina township wh<re there is not another building within miles, and where the town sections are yetjunsold. Of course we know that such a building may be necessary in four or five years, but it is not at all required just now, and the money which this piece of folly may cost, had much better be expended in road making. Practically all the money at the disposal of the Board lias already been spent, or mortgaged, so that the members have no moral right whatever to even entertain such spendthrift notions. It will be seen by our report of the proceedings at the meeting held last Saturday that the Chairman, Mr Lucas, and Mr Richards were bal lotted out. Should these members have the temerity to set-k re-election we conlidently expect that the ratepayers will mark their disapproval of the Board's past actions by rejecting them, and electing in their stead members who will have some regard for the true interests of those whom they are elected to represent.
