By a typographical error the date in our leader referring to the exodus from the West Coast was made 1888 instead of 1868. The bankruptcy of J. R. Lever is notified. Mr Tripe, dentist, will visit Feilding on Wednesday, the 15th instant. The Feilding Masonic Lodge will meet on Mouday next. Mr W. W. Corps has now definitely decided to establish a dairy factory in Campbelltown. Wo regret to learn that the condition "f Mr John Bartholomew is causiug bis friends much anxiety. McKeuzie, auctioneer for the Farmers' Alliance, was in Feilding yesterday making final arrangements lor the Ram Fair here on the 15th instant. Mr George Bartholomew, the eldest son of Mr John Bartholomew, with his family, arrived in Feilding from Queensland n few days ago. He will now reside permanently in Feilding where he will be a valuable addition to musical circles. Mr J. R. Montague's auction mart was well attended yesterday afternoon. Bidiling were fairly brisk, and fair prices were realized for the various lots submitted for sale, while the buyers were satisfied with getting good bargains. We have received the first number of " The Stage," conducted by .Mr Ernest Mansfield, of Wanganui. This new journalistic venture is to be devoted to Music, Sport, and the Drama, and the clever articles in the number now to hand give promise of a bright future. A man named Douglas, engine driver at Adsett's sawmill, got his thumb severely crushed, and the nail almost torn off, whilst engaged at his work yesterday. He came into town and Dr Johnston dressed tho wound for him. It is a comfort to know that the much vexed question as to who wrote Shakespeare's plays has now been finally answered. The real author was a North Countryman named Johnny Armstrong. This is conclusive. Our authority for this fact is tho Illustrated London News. Our Masonic readers will bo interested in the fact that Bro. J. Herbert Hankins, P. M., and Past Assistant Grand Registrar, has been appointed representative of the Grand Lodge of Ohio, in the Grand Lodge of New Zealand. The Grand Lodge of Ohio has no less than 400 lodges under its jurisdiction. — Manawatu Times. A most enjoyablo dance was held last myht in Mr Lundon's woolshed at the Makmo, under tho auspices of tho bachelors. There wore about tweutv fiv© couples present, Messrs Maloue, Apei, and Fitton supplied the music, Mr F. Mann was a most efficient M.C- The supper wus an excellent one to which tho guests did ample justice. Mr Ark wright has declined to stand for the Rangitikei seat at the next general election, but, we learn from the Mercury, he promised the members of the deputa tion which waited upon him, to support any candidate elected by the Rangitikei Liberal Association. In this connection we would .remind those interested that there will be a meeting of the Feildiug branch of the association held in the Assembly Rooms this evening. ,A team of cricketers got together in this district by Mr Fowler, propose taking a trip to Wellington to play a match there, also at Wanganui with tho College Eleven. The following are the names of the players who are going on tour: — Messrs Clayton, Lanco, Hunter, Levett, Fowler. A. and G, Hedges, Halcombo, Ooote, Elkingtou, and Sharpe, Prior to their departure, a match will take place at Feilding ou Wednesday next against the Manchester Club. Messrs Keid and Gray held a trial of the Mercer reaper and binder, which works without canvass, at Mr M'Kibbin's farm, Pleasant Point, recently. There was a fair attendance of farmers present to see the machine at work. The crop operated was a heayy crop of wheat, lying nnd tangled Tlie machine worked splendidly, elevated and tied the heavy crop to tlie satisfaction of all, and made nice sq'inre-cut sheaves wherever it was possible to so. Those present were rather suprised at the job made, and many liau doubts of the machine handling such a heavy crop. — Tiuiuru Herald, The Taonui School picnic was held in the school ground on Friday January '^7th. Tho children assembled about 1 o'clock and various games were indulged in. A number of races were ran during the day for toys, kindly given by the Feilding and Taonui people. At 4 o'clock the children, numbering 70, sat down to tea. The tables were presided over by Mesdanies Goldfinch, Mexted, Carey, Bailey (2) and the Misses Mexted, lunes, Campbell, Bailey (4) and Brogden. Prizes were then presented to each child attending tho school by Messrs Win. and Walter Bailey. The children leftabout 7 o'clock, after having passed a^ most enjoyable day. At a meeting of the trustees of the Wesleyan Church, held on Thursday night at tho church the Rev. Mr Watkins was in tlie chair. The following gentlemen sent in their resignations as trustees which were accepted : — Messrs S. J. Thompson, W. B. Barker, Jos. Trevcna, J. Aitken, 11. Cornish. Then Messrs J. <;. CY.bbe, I. lirent. A cnblenrnm from Sydney states that an inquest was held at Grenfell touching the deatli of a snake charmer named West. He procured seven tiser-snakes at Lake Cowal, and dropped in a faint on the road to GrenMl. His mates found a tisjerosnake four feet long coil im* on the man's chest, and before he readied the township he died. A verdict of death from snakebite was re'unifd. Deceased had a larue collection, ;md the police were occupied v whole day killing them. Tho marriage of Mr James Belk, of Colyton, to Miss Lizzie Gilbert, took place at the residence of tho bride's pareuts at Stan way on Tuesday last. The Rev Mr Carr performed the ceremony. The bridesmaids were the Misses Bet tie and Hannah Gilbert, sisters of the bride, Misses Belk and the Misses Selina and Lizzie Belk, sisters of the bridogroom. Mr Ernest Gilbert was best man. After the ceremony, the happy couple departed amidst showers of rice, and old shoes, for their home in Colytou. There was a large number of wedding presents. A dance was held in the evening m honour of the event, at which about 30 or 40 young peoplo took part. We wish the newly married couple every happiness and prosperity.
