Feilding Borough Council

The regular monthly meeting of the Council was held on Thursday evening. Present — Mr Goodbebere (Mayor), and Crs Gould, Morey, Fowles, Carthew, Haybittle, Lethbridge, and Chamberlain. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The correspondence received was follows : — From G. G. Hill, Borough Valuer, submitting the new valuation list for the current year. The rateable value of property within the Borough is assessed at £12.112, representing a rate of ±'605 12s at Is in the £, being an increase of .£67 ss— equal to an increase of 12 per cent oa last year's value, subject to any reductions which may be made by the Assessment Court. From the Town Clerk, Wellington, re memorial to the late Sir Harry Atkinson. From the Clerk oft he Manchester Road Board, stating it will be necessary for the Borough to provide their share of the cost of the Aorangi bridge, as the construction of the same will be completed by the end of this month. From Mr Peter Thomson, captain of the Feilding Fire Brigade, objecting to the granting of a license to the Assembly Rooms until proper steps be taken to allow of the public egress in case of fire. From the New Zealand Electrical Syndicate, Wellington, re lighting Feilding Borough with electric light. From R. B. Nolan, offering to collect the dog tax for the current year for the sum of j£ls. GENERAL. Mr Giesen, agent of the Colonists' Land and Loan Corporation, accompanied by Mr Frank Owen, waited upon the Council, and submitted the plans referring to the opening up for sale of the Corporation's reserves in the township of Feilding. Cr Haybittle proposed, and Cr Carthew seconded, that the application from the Colonists' Land and Loan Corporation f»r a road through the reserve from Stafford to Manchester street, and from Fergnsson street to Manchester Square, one chain' wide and half a chain opening to the Square, as shown on plans produced, be approved of; the said roads to be made up to existing roads to the approval of the Clerk of Works. — Carried. Resolved, That the correspondence be received, and report of the Finance Committee be adopted. Resolved, That the name of A. R. Allan be placed on the burgess Roll in lieu of H. Adsett for sections 118 and 119. Resolved, That the licence for the Assembly Rooms be granted, subject to the approval of the Inspector. Proposed by Councillor Lethbndge, seconded by Counciller Haybittle, that a loan of £800 be obtained under the " Loans to Local Bodies Act," and the " Public Works Amendment Act 1889,". to pay one third cost of the Aorangi bridgo, and that a special order be made in accordance with the same Act, and that a special rate of one penny in the £ be struck to pay interest ou the same. —Carried. Resolyed, That the Auditing account ba paid. Resolved, That the required information be sent to the Electrical Syndicate, and that the Mayor and Councillors Haybittle and Lethbndge, be a Committee to collect and forward the same. Resolved, That the Engineer prepare plans and call tenders, for the formation of a footpath along the west side of Kirn bolton road from Stafford to Derby streets. Resolved, That the Towu Clerk be appointed Dog Tax Registrar, on the same terms as last year. Resolved, That the Mayor and Councillors Sandilands, Haybittle, Morey, and Gould, form a Committee to revise the Borough Bye Laws, and report at the Council's next meeting. Two to form a quorum. # Resolved, That the Town Clerk be instructed to prepare a list to be laid on the Council table by next meeting, of all those in arrear with their rates. Resolved, That the attention of Sinking Fund Commissioners be drawn to clause 208 of the " Municipal Corporation Act, 1886," with a request that the accounts as therein mentioned, be forwarded to the Council. The Mayor gave notice of motion that at the next Council meeting, he would move that tenders be called for taking the levels of streets in the Borough of Feilding within the following boundaries. Warwick street, Grey street, Railway line, Eyre street, Manchester street, and Fergusson street, to include the streets mentioned above. The council then adjourned.
