Birmingham Notes
[fbom our own correspondent.! The members of the Literary Society held their first picnic on Saturday last at a well-chosen 6pot on the Oroua River bed just off the Valley road. The day being beautifully fine,' about 30 members put in an appearance. The various views af scenery to be obtained at this part ot the river are most romantic and grand — the lofty cliffs, almost perpendicular, about 100 feet high, top-lands covered with heavy bush, and the river winding and rushing along the pretty valley adds much beauty to the scene. As the cavalcade of well-mounted. ladies^ and their threaded their way along the winding road descending to the river, it had a most picturesque effect.' Games of "various kinds were played. A display of jumping by the various horses waa<i?iy,dasby*tbeir owners, and was highly appreciated. Mr H. S. Moss having brought his camera, the members were grouped and photos taken. All passed off well' and/*reat praise is due to the hon. sec.*, Mr A. Moss, for the carrying out of the various details. The party left the grounds for home just at sundown, well pleased with their day's outing. The inhabitants of Birmingham and Apiti should feel justly proud ot haying such a beautiful picnic ground so wove to their homes. . • = , x
