The sale will commence at 9 o'clock on Thursday morning. Mr A Guy, solicitor, of Palmerston North, and a friend, had a narrow escape from being killed on Saturday. They were driving through the Gorge, when the horse shied at one of the waterfalls, and before anything could be done to prevent it the whole concern was precipitated to the bottom of the river, the horse being killed and the trap smashed to atoms. Fortunately the two occupants jumped out before the trap went over, and escaped without injury. —Manawatu •Standard. Tho Government have now adopted the method of adding from 3s 6d to 5s 6d per aero to tho value of the land which they opon up for settlement, to coyer tho cost of constructing tracks through the blocks. The Feilding Brass Band, as arranged, gave a capital selection of music in the Rotunda on Sunday afternoon last. Considering it turned out so wet, the attendance was very good, Messrs Cobbe and Darragh's, and the newly erected verandahs at Montague'e came in rery handy, and afforded good shelter for the audience.
