The Fielding Star. TUESDAY. JANUARY 17, 1893. Chamber of Commerce.

Ix our correspondence column to-day " Brevis " urges the establishment of a Chamber of Commerce for the town of Feilding. He appears to have forgot ton that a movement was made in that direction some few months ago, but owing to a variety of unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances nothiug practical was effected. Now, how ever, that such obstructions, real or imaginary, as then existed no longer obtain, we hope that the matter will be taken up once more, and carried to a successful issue. Although the title Chamber of Commerce implies a membership of business men, yet it by no means follows that it should be composed only of those engaged in commercial pursuits. On the contrary, professional men and farmers are not only eligible, but very desirable members, especially in a community such as ours, where the interests concerned are so great and so varied, yet where their conservation tends so strongly towards the common good. We thiuk the suggestion made by "Brevis," that the Mayor should take action, is a very excellent one. Mr. Edmund Goopheheke occupies such a position that there is no one better fitted than himself, either socially or personally, in the Borough, to undertake the task which now lies at his hand, aud we sincerely hopo that he will take it up with his wouted energy. VVe are convinced that everyone interested would give him their willing supports and hearty co-operation.
