The following are the handicaps for the competitions — for Lieutenant Kirton's medal and Mr Mugce's medal — to be fired on Wednesday, 18th January : — Sergt Saywell, Corpl Sayvvell, Vols Stevens, T. Evans, Parker, and Scott, scratch ; Vols J. Evans and Fanthorpe, 2 points ; Sergt Kitchen and Corpl Aitken, 5 points ; Vol Pleasants, 8 points; Vols Doherty and Bnrlace, 10 points; Sergt Petherick, 11 points ; Vol Henson, I*2 points : Vols Cootnbe and Robinson, 14 points ; Corpl Gould and Vol Taylor, 16 points; Vols Boyd, Guuderson, Humphrey, McFariane, and Newman, 20 points; Sergt Milson, Vols Bleakley, Boddy, Femvick, Grooves, Matrayers, McLeod, and Bugler Bellve, 25 points. Colonel Fox's report on his inspection of the Volunteer Force is not completed yet, but is expected to be ready by the end of the month. It is understood that he will recommend the adoption of the battalion system iv the large centres, and also the disbandment of several corps. The report is being awaited with great eagerness by the volunteering portion of the community. The Martini-Henry rifles, ordered by the Government last year, will reach the colony in June or July. The Government were anxious that tho weapon should be available for the present meeting of the New Zealand Rifle Association, but delay in completing the order has been caused through the factories being busily engaged in supplying extensive army orders.- - Post. The match between the Palmerston and Manchester Rifles will be fired on the Feilding Range on Monday tho 2ikd instant.
