General Butler, United States General, is dead. By an explosion in a mine in Colorado 27 miners were killed. At tbe Miuers' Conference at Birmingham, it was stated that 270,000 members of the Miners' Federation of Great Britain demanded that au Eight Hours Bill should be passed into law. An artist named Van Kaspelen, who was living separate from hid wife, iu Sydnev, shot his landlady (Mrs Wilson) dead with a revolver because she had shown some little kindness to his wife. The murderer afterwards committed suicide by shooting himself. The London Times says that Colonel Sir J. West Kidgway, special British En- j voy to Morocco, will be attended on his j arrival at Tangier with a naval display | of sufficient magnitude to impress upon J the Moors that Great Britain intends to ' have her demands satisfied. Bumours of the issue of fresh loans by some of the Australian colonies are causing depression in Australian stocks.
