INTERPROVINCIAL NEWS.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION). Invercargill, January 11. Annie or Kate Byrne, a single woman of about 30 years, jumped from the jetty this evening with her infant, two years and three month old, m her arms. The woman got hold of a pile and was rescued, but the child was drowned. Byrne came from Christchurch, and had been a barmaid, but had recently been associating with low people and drinking. It is believed that she was in the Seacliffe Asylum for some months, and in August last the police had her iv custody for some days on a charge of lunacy.
