Te Kooti at Aorangi
We are informed on competent author ity, that Te Kooti has not been seen by the local na'ives, or by any white visitor, since he arrived Many Europeans were importunate, and to pacify them the wily natives showed them some grizzled old fellow instead of the real Simon Pure. He is to speak, but not necessar* ily to appear, on Sunday. His speech will not be in Maori, but in " the language of the Atua !" Two enterprising Feilding tradesmen, with a view to picking up the " pieces," sent carts down to Anrangi yesterday, and did a roaring trade amongst the Maoris encamped there. Wo fancy these "early birds " are praying that Te Kooti and his followers will make a lengthy stay in these parts. A large number of natives— male and female — not blessed with a super-abund-ance of modesty, were to be seen yesterday and to-day disporting themselves in the Oreua river, close to the railway bridge, to the great annoyance of passing pedestriaa and vehicular passengers. Mr Bradford, of the Feilding Horse Bazaar, notifies in another column that he will run coaches from his stables to the Aorangi Pa to-morrow (Sunday), the first coach starting at 1 o'clock.
