London, December 29 The British Government are arming the Belfast night police with revolvers. The Council of the Colonial Institute are arranging with the public and middle class schools to give greater prominence to the teaching of colonial history and geography. December 30. At a meeting of the Channel -Tunnel Company to-day, Sir Edward Watkin accused the Hon J. Chamberlain of ruthless, tyrannical and abominable conduct in stopping works when he was President of the Board of Trade. It is reported that Archbishop Logue, of Armagh, will be created a cardinal instead of Archbishop Walsh, of Dublin, because the latter failed to promulgate an important decision of the Pope in Ireland. Mr Michael Davitt, recently unseated for North Meath on the grounds of intimidation by the priests, has been asked to contest North-east Cork, for which constituency it is said Mr William O'Brien will shortly resign. The Prince of Wales, Lord Brassey, the Hon J. Chamberlain, Mr C. T. Ritchie ; (late President of the Board of Trade), and Mr H. Broadhurst, M.P. for Nottingham, are among the members of the Royal Commission set up to enquire into the question of making provision for the aged poor.
