She was Frozen to Death

*_ JJews from Dunkirk (NY.), under date October 25,. states that some youug men from Fredonia who were oat hunting on the previous Sunday were attracted to a hollow chestnut stump by the barking of their dog. They were startled bj the discovery inside ot it of the body of a woman, which was identified as being that of Emma Healp of Fredonia, 18 years old, who aad been missing since January Ist. She made her home with her half-sister, and spent the evening playing checkers with a young man of her acquaintance who called. When her sister came home she scolded Emma io the presence of oi the young man lor not having changed her dress. The next morning shelett the house before the family had risen. Tne family advertised fbr her in several country papers in vain. The supposition is that she started to walk to Westfield, sixteen miles away, and as a storm came on late in the day she sought refu»e in the woods. The stump was easily accessible from the outside, but once inside the hollow it would be difficulty if not impossible, to scale. It is concluded that she huddled down to keep warm and went to sleep, finally freezing to death.
