At a meeting of about forty people a committee was formed to obtain signatures to a petition asking the sentence of ten years penal servitude lmDOsed upon Powell for using instruments to procure miscarriage, should be remitted or re* duced. Palmerston North, This Day. Messrs Austee and Grigg's upholstery shop was burned down this morning. The loss is over £200 covered by insurance to the extent of £125 in the Standard.
