The Feilding Star. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1892. Borough Draining and Lighting

We are gratified to find that much interest has been excited in the question of draining and lighting the Borough of Feilding. In our correspondence columns to-day "Burgess" makes some judicious remarks on drainage, and " Electric" on " lighting, " makes a definite suggestion to bring in water from the Kiwitea stream for the purpose of driving machinery for electric lighting or other purposes which would include, necessarily, supplying the town with pure, and therefore wholesome, water for domestic and industrial purposes. Some years ago Mr Peter Bartholomew recognised the feasibility of such a scheme, and made a rough, but tolerably accurate, estimate of the probable cost, and found the sum required would be comparatively small. As " Burgess " promises to deal with a system of drainage in another letter, we will make no more comments at present.
