Primitive Methodist Church

• 4. __ Tne quarterly meeting of the Manawatu circuit of the Primitive Methodist Church was held yesterday in the Feilding church. The following officials were present : — Revs Lyon (chairman) and Carr, and Messrs R. Linton (senr.), A. Linton (secretary), G. Adams, J. Gould, Bull, Broadbelt/T. A. Smith, N. Gill, H. P. Thompson and J. C. Thompson. Mr Cur ran, home inissionery from Hunter- ! ville was granted a seat in the meeting, j Satisfactory progress for this year was ' reported, and the members' roll showed a substantial increase in numbers. In was decided to ask the Conference to sanction the division of the circuit, the new circuit to comprise Halcombe, Stanway, Beaconsfield and Waituna ; Halcombe being the centre and the Rev. G. Carr to reside there as at present. The parent circuit' to have Feilding as its centre, with the Rev. T. H Lyon as minister, and to retain Campbelltown, Awahuri, Colyton, Midland road, Cheltenham, and the Sunday School at Makino. This step was taken on account of the extended nature of the circuit, the new arrangement being more compact. Unanimous invitations were given to the Revs Lyon and Carr to stay a second year, and were cordially accepted. The Rev T. H. Lyon and Messrs Gould and R. Linton were appointed delegates to attend the Conference at Ashburton, commencing on the 12th January. • Yesterday afternoon and evening a tea meeting, sale of work, and entertainment were held in the Foresters' Hall. There was a good company to tea, and it was necessary to have two sittings at the tables, which were presided over by the following ladies :— Mesdames Adams. Fidler, Freeman, Trevena, and Gower, and Misses Pope, Foster. Curtis, and Blackmore. Along one side of the hall there was a good display of fancy and useful articles, which were being offered tor sale by Mesdames Gould, Thompson, Lyon, and Worsfold After the lea the Hall was arranged for the entertainment, and the building was soon filled to the door, The following programme w&s gone through : — Song, M iss Gould, ac» oompanied by Miss Curtis ; Mr Bush, of Palmerston, gaye an address on phren* ology, which was both instructive and amusing. At the close of his address Mr Rush invited those who wished to have their heads examined to come for ward, and a number did so. Mr Rush then announced he would issue charts, making a charge on behalf of the church. After Mr Rush's address Mr Kitchen gave a selection on the violin. The next item was a recitation by Master Lyon. The entertainment closed with a per* formance by MrColville, ventriloquist, of Palmerston, which was much enjoyed by the audience.
