[FKOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 A children's service was held in the Birmingham Wesleyan Church on Sunday morning last. Mr Birks, conducted the service and examining the children on the life of Christ. Before the questions were asked, Mr Anyon, the superintendent of the school, gave a short address. He said that the school had been in existence for 2 years. It now numbered nearly 50 children, and the teachers had taken great interest in their work. They had the , promise of two additional teachers, and the future of the school was a bright and hopeful one. Mr Birks said we must not forget the children. We must look after them for the hope of the future nation as well as of the future church, is centred in the young. He was glad that Mr Anyon's hands was strengthened by two additional teachers as the increase of children in the district necesitated an increase of the teacher's staff. The children answered the questions asked very readily, and gave evidence of careful training. The Birmingham Cricket Club played the first match of the season on Wednesday between married and single. The single men were victorious, making 65 to their opponents 31 runs. Mr Kerr made 42 runs for the single side, and Mr Birks took six wickets in the first innings. The match was a most enjoyable one, although spoiled somewhat by the rain.
