At the inquest on (he body of the infant son of Lana Christian, who with her sisters and father are charged with the murder of the baby, Dr Neale gave evidence that the body of the child was too decomposed to show the cause of death. A little boy named Joe Christian, aged about 7, was put into the box, but his statement went for nothing, as he appeared to know only from hearsay. He said he knew the baby had been killed with a stick, but when questioned how he knew, the only reply to be got from him was, ' I know.' The inquest was adjourned till this afternoon. Woodville, November 21, At a meeting of subscribers to the fund to pay the fine of £'50 imposed on Mr E. A. Haggen in the recent libel action, it was resolved that the payment of the fine having been remitted, the amount should be paid over to Haggen towards the cost of defending the libel action, and to Dr Davenport towards the cost of prosecuting the information against William Syms, J.P. Wellington, This Day. The spielers who were raided on Saturday were before Mr Graham, 8.M., this morning. One got off on the plea he was a hawker. Two others got two and three months. The others are being tried. Dvsei>ix, This Day. A young man named Jas. Barnes, aged 17, employed as a fleecer at the Mangatoro station, was drowned yesterday when bathing in the Mangatoro river, His parents reside in Falmerston North. Auckland, November 21. Arthur Edward Grey, son of John Grey, a welNknown citizen, died very suddenly oa Saturday night, and an inquest is proceeding.
