Pohangina Notes

I FROM OTJR OWN CORRESPONDENT, i Settlers on the Spur road have been going up and down their famous road for some years in comparative silence, or rather they have not poured their complaints into the public ear. There, have been eight accidents at the foot of one of its sharp hills in as many years. Traffic is now increasing, and some farmers on the road have guaranteed a supply of milk to the factory to be erected at Ashurst in January. The question is how are they going to get their milk delivered? They cannot make the detour by I the Watershed road, because it is not metalled. There having been so many accidents with occasional traffic only — what may we expect with a daily use ? There are surplus funds from No. 6 Ward. If our Warden was made aware ofthe feelings of the residents, he would no doubt move in the matter and see what is best to be done. , We who live in the bush know how difficult it is to survey broken land for roads, and can often see, after the bush is felled, where a much easier grade could have been obtained. So in this case, one of the worst could have been avoided had the road been taken through Mr Binge's section. A deviation ought to be made or, instead, some of the grades i softened. j There are two slips that cover the whole ' width of Watershed road. I The Commissioner of Lands was at Ashurst on Monday and instructed the secretary of the farm homestead associations to call members of the Salisbury and Delaware block together at Ashurst on Friday November 18, in order to draw for their sections. The committee only of the Pohangina Farm Homestead Association is requested to meet the Commissioner at Ashurst on the same day at 3 o'clock. The Wanganui Harbor Board Association is to meet at Colyton on Saturday, November 19, at 3 o'clock, to arrange for a day on which to draw, and also for other important business. Every member is to attend or be represented.
