. «. We are very glad to see that the question of establishing local iodus tries is being discussed. In our correspondence column " A Farmer " suggests that a soap factory be established here in conjunction with a bacon curing factory. It is well known that enormous quantities of tallow of the very best quality, and pigs of good breed, are exported from this district, therefore the first requirement, the raw material, is already available. All that is wanted is the one man to make a commencement. In our issue of Saturday we pointed out some of the advantages derived by all classes of the community by the establishment of local industries of this kind, and we trust that the movement which has commenced iv Wanganui and the Wairarapa will be followed by the settlers here. We commend the idea of holding a meeting to discuss the feasibility of the project.
