The Wairarapa Farmers' Co-operative Association proposes to redeem a pledge which it gave when it was first organised, to foster local industries. It is we (Wairarapa Daily Time 3) are informed' prepared to start with the current year, under certain reasonable conditions : (1) a Butter Factory ; (2) Bacon Curing ; (3) a Jam Factory ; (4) a Pickle Factory. There exists no reason why this good example should not be followed by the Fanners' Associations on this coast. Butter, bacon, jam, or pickle factories could be started and, no doubt, worked profitably, more especially as they would not be running counter to any other similar institutions in the same locality. We need not dwell upon the importance of each and all of these important indus- 1 tries, or dilate upon the stimulus they would give to labour, more especially to that healthiest and best kind of labour which is performed in the open air ; we need not point out that such industries would increase the trade and prosperity of the town and district, and enhance the value of property ; because all these considerations are so self-evident that each and all of onr readers cannot fail to appreciate them at their full value.
