(PER PEESS ASSOCIATION). Sydney, October 31. The barque Belle Isle, bound from Newcastle to Auckland, which put in here with tbe rudder gone, had a very trying time. The crew were so exhausted that immediately on the vessel's arrival in port men from shore had to be placed on board lo keep her afloat. The vessel was consideraly knocked about by a whirlwind prior to losing the rudder. This Day. Addressing a public meeting at Broken Hill, several speakers accused the police of brutality in arresting men who were only the worse for liquor. In ordering H.M.S. Rmgarooma to Samoa, the Admiral acted on a cable message from England directing a warship to be despatched to Apia with all speed to protect the| lives and property of British subjects.
