" Marvellous " Melbourne
From the commencement oi the financial crisis up to last week 47 private compositions with creditors have been completed in Melbourne, and 20 are in progress, making a total of 67. The amount to be paid under the 47 arrangements is £65,82 1 , being an average rate of neany 6 9-10 din the pound on the total amount. The liabilities were estimated at £2,280,807, and the assets at £1,0*23,832. Forty-tour compositions ranged from 3d to Jd, four being of the latter amount, and 11 paid a penny in the pound. One paid os and another 9s, the highest being 17s lid in the pound. The other arrangements in progress may be expected to bring the total habiities to date from £4,500,000 to £5,000,000. Of the 47 compositions the legal profession contribute the largest number. Only a comparatively small number is cennected with trade and manufactures.
