Stock Market
Messrs Lowes and Irons' report on their stock sale at Masterton, as follows : —Our entries at last Thursday's sale were not numerous. The quality of the sheep was good generally, out the cattle, with the exception of dairy cows, were inferior and very mixed, Fat sheep were dull, owing in part, probably, to the stoppage ef railway traffic between here and Wellington, also to the reserves being too high, vendors being unwilling to accept less than the late ruling rates. The cattle, considering the quality, sold very well. The demand for ewes is not quite so brisk, a good many remaimug unsold. The following prices were realised ;— Fat wethers, 12s 6d to 16s ; mixed ewes and wethers, 14s; shorn wethers, 10s 9d to 12s ; ewes and lambs, 12s 2d ; dairy cows, from £4 to £5 10s; 2-year-old steers, to 655 ; yearlings, from 36s to 49s ; weaners, 28s to 345 ; draught mares, £22 to £25 10s ; hacks, from £6 to £8 ; pigs, no demand.
