The Half-holiday

♦ For the information of those interested we publish the following extract from the Act now in force, relating to the weekly half-holiday. "Every shop assistant employed in a shop shall on some working day in each week have a half -holiday from one o'clock in the afternoon. Any shopkeeper oftending against the provisions of this section shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding £5 for each offence." The onus of taking action under the Act is placed on the shoulders of the Factory Inspectors, who have already been instructed to notify every person who employs assistants, of the requirements of the said Act. For the benefit of shopkeepers we reproduce clause 7 of the Act, which, as well as Clause 3, is worthy of their attention. " Every shopkeeper is required to provide proper sitting accommodation for every female or females employed in his shop. And if any shopkeeper fails to comply with his section he shall be subject, lor every week during which he so fails, to a penalty not exceeding £5.
