A. circular received from Auckland sajs:— To those who take an interest in improving the administration, of our Railways, it has been a pleasing feature to note the kindly assistance and encouragement given by the Press of the Colony generally— almostu'niversaHj— to the inform movement initiated by Mr Samuel Vaile. In this city it has been felt for some time past that the best way of helping the movement would be to publicly recognise the great service rendered to the Colony during the past ten years by Mr Vaile. His efforts have undoubtedly effected some good, but to carry out all bis aims will involve a further large expenditure of time and money, and it is felt that it would only be fair to hand back to him the amount he has already expended— now considerably over £1,000. The Committee call upon the citizens of this district, to aid in making the testimonial worthy of the occasion, and such as will be an encouragement to others to work honestly for the public welfare, and to enable Mr Vaile to carry his work to a successful issue. Subscription lists hare been sent to the Chairman of the fioad Boards in thia district.
