Count Starhemburg an Austrian completed the ride from Vienna to Berlin in 71 hours 34 minutes and secures first prize and silver bust of the Emperor of Germany presented by the latter. Baron Reitzenstein, a German, finished the journey in 73 hours 6 minutes, notwith- , standing that he was lost in a fog for a time. London, October 6. At the Anglican Church congress an animated discussion took place on the suggested vivisection of the Church during which Bishops Barry and Moorhouse attacked the proposal of the Bishop of Edinburgh, and declared disastrous results would follow. It was supposed that Bishops Barry and Moorhouse were the voice of the Church in this matter. Dr Victor Horsley F.R.S. attacked Bishop Barry with considerable warmth and quite a scene was the result. The Official Receiver has published his observations into the affiairs of the Mercantile Bank of Australia. He states that many of the matters connected with its management .demand searching enquiry. The funds in hand, he considers are sufficient to pay a first dividend of 20s in the £. The Beceiver has realised all the assets in England and estimates that the amount will reach ±'57,000. Total amount owing to unsecured creditors in London is £1,036,000 of which £998,000 is due to depositors. The Rev.
