D ED WOOD is a chestnut horse, seven I* yenrs old, and stands 15 hands 3in. high, ou short legs ; his sire, Natator, is by Traducer — Waterwitch (half'sister to Lurliue) ; Natator is the sire of more winners during last season than any other stallion in the colony ; his dam, Rosalind, is noted for having never thrown a bad one, producing, among others, Black Rose (one of the best that has won the Canterbury Derby), Alpine Rose, Sweetie (winner of a nutnier of races on the West Coast;, Awarua Rose, &c. During his short time on the turf, Kedwood proved himself very fast. In the Canterbury Champagne Stakes (run in lm. 150-s.) he had to meet such cracks as Carbine and Somneil. He won the Juvenile Handicap at Hawkes Bay, Mahakipawa Cup, and several other races, and ran second to Wolverine (New Zealand Cup winner) in a five-furlong race, to whom he was giving 19lb.
