The Cholera— A Prophecy

To those who haye read closely the cable messages received during the last month haying reference to the cholera plague and noted many of the events that have been recorded in connection therewith, the following passage from Fergus Hume's " Year of Miracle " will be of interest at the present time: — •' Owing to the ' burning sickness," the season of 1900 had abruptly come to an end ; and every one who could possibly manage to do so was flying from the fated city (London). Many wanted to go to the Continent, but so great was the dread of the plague that tbe dwellers on the mainland refused to allow the fugitives to land on their shores. The steamers across the English Channel stopped running ; and no English person was allowed to set foot in France or Belgium. In America, too, the same selfish fear prevailed, and the United States refused to hold any com* munication with England whatsoever. The whole of tbe United Kingdom was boycotted by the world; and to the horrors of the plague there seemed likely to be added the still more appalling horrors of famine." Had the author pre-dated the prophecy by eight years he would have given a tolerably faitful description of what is happening at the present time, as what was foretold of the year a.d. 1900 his come to pass in A.p. 1892.— Christchurch Telegraph.
