A Young Girl Commits Suicide
FER PBESS ASSOCIATION). Gisborne, This Day. A most determined suicide took place last night, of a girl, 17 years of age, named Louisa Solomon, poisoning herself with strychnine. She had complained of pains in her head and legs, and told her sister she was going to the chemist for strychnine. In a few minutes the deceased returned and asked a lad named Attwood to get her a drink of water, as she wanted to take poison. The lad saw her put some powder into her mouth and throw the remainder away. She died shortly afterwards, and said to her sister before dying " I bet you what you like I will be dead before the morning." The girl had not led a good life, and had previously threatened to commit suicide if she got into trouble. The girl's father became very excited on hearing of his daughter's death, and was arrested on a charge of attempting suicide.
