■ '■■ ♦ The following business in connection with .the above Board .was transacted after we went to press on Saturday : — Befe.rring to the letter from the Lands and Survey Department, re Whare road, Mr Taylor suggested, that a, reply be sent by the ' fiedfetary own ing receipt of the department's letter in a guarded manner without committing the Board. o , .Mr. Dick waited upon the Board to call their attention to the state of Dick's road, Birmingham, which is in an unsatisfactory, Btate owing to land slips, etc., and stated that he. had done a good deal to keep the road open for traffic. The Board promised to give the matter its careful consideration. Resolved, That Mr Ryan be appointed ponndkeeper vice Mr Meehan resigned. A. discussion arose upon the question of charitable aid relief. Several members expressed an opiniori that something should be done to considerably reduce the Board's expenditure under this head as the present system was too. expensive. Resolved, That the Secretary inform Mr Bathe and other petitioners that attention will be given to their request as soon as the thirds are received. Resolved, That a slaughtering license be granted to J. B. Anderson as requested. Resolved, That, the Engineer make arrangements with Mr " Madden! to 'continue the bridle track on the Kiwitea Cross road to the amount of £80, on the terms offered by him, and at the present contract price. , ' . . ' Resolved, That the chairman sign the memorial forwarded by the Awatere road re subsidies. .■■■■'■■' Resolved, That the various applicants for payment for felling bush on road lines be notified, that when the work is passed for payment and the Board is in funds the accounts will be paid. Resolved, that Mr Biiggs' application re drain be granted if approved of by the Board's engineer. Resolved, That J. Lynch and R. Spiers' accounts be passed for payment. Resolved, That the Secretary write to Mr Hankins asking him to let the matter stand over until the Pohangina Board is formed, when it will be gone into by the new Board. ; Resolved, That Messrs Jeffenes and Mcßean be permitted to fell the road lines fronting their sections, everything to be passed by the Engineer and. payment to be on the Board's usual terms when in funds. ■ Resolved, That H. Jacobs be placed on the rate roll in place of W. Gardiner. Resolved,. That aid be continued to the amount of 10s per week to E. Stubbs lintil the Board's next meeting. Begplved, That the Engineer be instructed to have the. slips cleared oft the Middle road at once at a cost not exceeding 4110. . ' .. .. , : Resolved, That the Board's employes in constant work be paid 6s per day and occasional labour 7s per d&y. Resolved, That John Marshall's tender of £45 5s 9d for Barrow's road be accepted. m The Board agreed to cancel W. Beck s tender of £42 9s and return his deposit, as his tender was informal. Resolved; That notici be given of the Board's intention at a special meeting to beheld on the 22nd October, to levy a special rate of one penny and I of a penny in the £, over the whole of the rateable value of the rateable property within the Ongo Ward for the purpose of providing interest on a, loan of isoojO> to be borrowed under the Act of 1886, such rate to be annually. recurring for 26 years, and shall be payable in equal halfy early instalments on the Ist day of January and July in each year ; also to strike a special rate of 7£d in the £, within the Sandon Small Farm Block, to proyide interest on a loan of £4000 under the Act of 1886, sncbTate to be annually recurring ior 26 years and to be payable in half??early instalments: on the Ist c(ay of January and July in each year. Resolved. In reference to Mr Lowes letter re slips, this" Board floes not consider itself responsible for slips on Oroua Valley or any other road. The Board passed a number of accounts -or payment and' adjourned.
