The Feilding Star. THURSDAY, SEPT. 15, 1892.

The Legislative Council has made a most desirable amendment in the Bankruptcy Bill, one which business people particularly will highly appreciate. Clause 77 has been altered so as to allow the bankruptcy estate of a husband to have a claim on property held by his wife, if he has expended money in improving that property within two years of his bankruptcy. Again, if a bankrupt has provided money to purchase land in his wife's name, the land to be chargeable to the bankrupt estate to the amount of the money furnished by the husband. Should the money so expended not be refunded, the presiding judge may order the sale of the property, or a portion of it, and the estate is to have the first claim on the proceeds. This provision will be a bar to a large amount of swindling, though we dare- ' say (piously remarks the Wellington Press) that it may lead to a good deal of false swearing. Thkre is a general expression of opinion amongst the settlers in the Campbelltown district that the mails for that part of the country should be received and despatched from Feilding, instead of Greatford as at present. The distance by coach is fully four miles less, and in addition, letters for that part would be received considerably earlier. Possibly a petition signed by those interested in the matter, and forwarded to the Postmaster-General, would cause the desired change to be ' effected. There is already a mail service between Awahuri and Feilding, about one third of the distance.
