The weather was fine, but the ground was ankle- deep in mud. The state of the ground precluded any chance of an interesting game, but it was more one-sided than was expected after Canterbury's victories in the north. The local men played a winning game nil through, and scored a goal and a try (seven points) in the first spell. This was increased by another goal, making 12 points, against three scored by the visitors from a penalty kick- The fine collaring and following up of the Welling* hngton men was too much for their opponents, who seemed to play with little heat on finding out the state of the ground. ■■^^^■^^■^
